Probably everyone in this forum would agree with the above statement because we believe what K said about why the human brain is dysfunctional and needs to undergo transformation, is the truth.
But the truth is that we don’t really know if it’s true - we choose to believe it is true because not knowing what is true feels worse than pretending to know. Why don’t we find out what we can verify instead of choosing to believe what makes us feel good? Are we serious enough to know what we’re actually doing?
There is no inner security, because we live in a web of relationships, we are dependent on the evaluations of others. This seems to be the case, whether in our current relationships or in the social standards that determine what is good and what is bad, which we have internalized, constantly checking to see if we still conform - a process of fear.
And there is no inner security either, because our future perspectives, our goals are wishful thinking, and we are mortal - everything that is not now might never be, eventually.
@07707 it is not true to believe that anything that we do has no effect on the world
On the contrary it has an enormous effect. How else did this cruel ,utterly corrupt world came in existence?
Surely we are responsible for it.
I sincerrly hope you realise this fact.
Please explain why “we are responsible for this cruel, utterly corrupt world” coming into existence? That sounds like some sort of ‘guilt trip’. (Things were already pretty bad when I got here!)
We don’t realize that we , each one of us represent the rest of humanity. Unless we don’t change the world continue to be what it is , cruel, senseless, indeferent and fragmentary which causes tremendous suffering .
@danmcderm
Indeed, good question which is - and I re phrase (hope you don’t mind) - has responsibility anything to do with guilt? What does it mean to feel responsible? Not the responsibility of the politicians, the leaders, the teachers etc… there only concern is the continuity of society, as it has become, as it is and probably will be in the future if it depends on them.
We can easily put that aside, no?
At least … intellectually?
But if we are honest it feels rather a partial understanding, no? We all want a deep understanding that will allow us to deal with the problems of life.
But does such understanding exist at all?
After all ,is it again (for how many times on end) a product of thought?
The conditioned brain is aware, but it is conditioned to alter awareness to comport with its conditioning, i.e., its beliefs, biases, desires, fears, etc. So responsibility for the conditioned brain is conditioned response, reaction.
I’m speaking of awareness or consciousness of what is being seen, heard, in any moment; all the colors all the sounds, shapes, physical sensations, physical movements, habitual or not. Awareness not limited by any idea or ‘conditioning’ , no judgement and if there is a judgement by thought about the “conditioned brain” it gets included. Nothing is excluded. No effort, no motive other than to ‘include’…this exercise shows how little we are conscious of, and as I said, may be where our responsibility’ as humans lies: which is to be conscious…to be aware.
You can’t talk about yourself, that is vanity. You can only look at problem as a human problem not your particular problem. There is where the teachings kick in.
Unless you are beyond your self, you are vanity itself.
If you were beyond yourself, you would be compassionate and wouldn’t make accusations. The self-centered brain can’t be accused of knowing what it is doing because it is just doing what it has been doing for millennia, following leaders, conforming to what is considered normal and proper. Until its behavior is questionable enough to be more interested in self-knowledge than confidence, self-deception prevails.
I don’t see what you are trying to say . There is no going above yourself. I don’t accuse you. What point has accusation. If your life is not empty why get offended. The very act of being offended shows how shallow one is.
