Ending the self

You know, a lot of unnecessary confusion on this thread might have been avoided had its central concern been raised in the form of a question instead.

Is there, or can there be, a pure perception - a total insight - that wipes out the ‘I’?

Then there is no hierarchy of those know or don’t know the answer; we are all in the same boat, enquiring.

Gossip & comparison,

*“How oddly similar are gossip and worry. They are both the outcome of a restless mind. A restless mind must have a changing variety of expressions and actions, it must be occupied; it must have ever increasing sensations, passing interests, and gossip contains the elements of all these.
“Gossip is the very antithesis of intensity and earnestness. To talk about another, pleasantly or viciously, is an escape from oneself, and escape is the cause of restlessness. Escape in its very nature is restless. Concern over the affairs of others seems to occupy most people, and this concern shows itself in the reading of innumerable magazines and newspapers with their gossip columns, their accounts of murders, divorces and so on.
“As we are concerned with what others think of us, so we are anxious to know all about them; and from this arise the crude and subtle forms of snobbishness and the worship of authority. Thus we become more and more externalized and inwardly empty. The more externalized we are, the more sensations and distractions there must be, and this gives rise to a mind that is never quiet, that is not capable of deep search and discovery.”
K: Commentaries on Living, Series I, Chapter 3, ‘Gossip and Worry’

Incredible that some are more interested in who others are, what they are, rather than working on themselves. The truth is that freedom is always at the beginning, and interest as to who is free and who isn’t - is just an escape from actually beginning per se. Any answer to this question is not only irrelevant but also causes damage, as it encourages comparison, and therefore blocks oneself, blocks one’s enquiry into oneself. The journey of life and of discovery is actually endless. The moment there is the question about another, it is always because there is an indulgence (acting out) into comparison. Is one aware that one is comparing? Is one aware that one is gossiping? When one is comparing, one is also unconsciously choosing who to hang out with, and so one finds others who appear to be at a similar state. But, how can one really even “know” another when they are constantly changing? So, the moment one states: “That person is free or not”, one has compared oneself or someone else with their idea and conclusion about that person. And that comparison is just another form of psychological measurement, which inevitably blocks one’s actually beginning to explore “what is” within and without oneself, and discovering what the truth about one’s self is alone.

You know, the word hypocrisy (according to my dictionary) has, as one of its meanings, “the sin of pretending to virtue or goodness”.

You have written above:

And yet, on a thread I read not too long ago - concerning K’s process - you wrote

kundalini is actually quite painful, coccyx was sore for weeks afterwards, and then there is the “snake”…

Not to worry voyager, it will never happen to you…

Clearly implying - with a smirk - that your special attainment was beyond the reach of the person with whom you were comparing yourself.

So please, no lectures from you about comparison.

James - simply find out the truth and facts for yourself first-hand - if you are in doubt, ask yourself, and you may or may not answer - you are free, it is your call and none of this writer’s business what your inquiry may be.

It is irrelevant to the absolute truth - only you can find that out, when you ask the right questions of yourself, and not of others.

Oh James - you must have a lot of time on your hands to make this writer so important to you - no answer will ever grant you peace of mind.

The question is: If this writer did not exist, would you be at eternal peace?

This sentence is yet another example of psychological thought, as the self, inventing images of another which it then believes to be the truth, when in fact those images can be nothing but complete illusion, division, conflict and gossip.

It has NO base in fact as pure perception is not involved.

You say ‘ for me’ - a lie, a self-deception’ - where ‘you’ are involved truth is not.

No facts at all have been pointed out by you to this point. All your posts are psychological images, and as such have NO foundation in fact or truth.

I don’t understand this intransigence? - I have literally been block-quoting statements you yourself have made above, attempting to show you why they do not make sense (as stated).

The statements I have quoted of yours are facts - that is, they are there for anyone to see on this thread.

However, your assertion that pure perception wipes out the ‘I’ is not a fact for you (unless it is, and then you have no ‘I’ - in which case, congratulations!).

No one is taking away your right to assert things as true that are not actually true for you. Anyway, this is going nowhere, so I’ll leave it there.

That is one of the most vicious, nasty pieces of bullying and depreciation of another that this writer has ever encountered on any forum…it defies logic that one would ever come across such venom on a K forum.

This writer does not identify with such condescending personal attacks dressed up as wisdom. It is the same politic which is bombing Ukraine, and the fact that this evidently is not seen is sad beyond reason.

Thanks anyway James - and best energies!

Regarding ‘we perceive what we believe’:
There is no perception where belief is involved. Belief is the psychological animation of thought’s images as self

(1) Is it a psychological only or does it appear as actual physical reality?

To state the above question more clearly, ( if you have seen the movie, ‘Witches of Eastwick’ ), where the belief is actually & physically manifested. This has happened with me , hence the question.

Alright then, call it (our distortion of actuality), “perception”.

There is no self to destroy. There’s only thought.
