Moderators don’t get paid for their time so it makes sense to let the forum participants do the flagging, and have an algorithm do the suspending of offending participants.
In certain cases, the moderator must decide what’s best, and they may not have enough spare time or energy to satisfy those who are more concerned with making their case than carrying on with the conversation.
What is obvious is not always true let alone the truth. It turns out to be relative.
It was obvious for a very long time that the sun revolved around the earth until someone came up with the idea that it was the other way around. It took a long time for that idea to be accepted as correct. Same with time and distance that were treated as two separate data until someone came up with the idea that it is actually a coherent unit.
We should not make an incident into a law. They believed that the sun went around the earth. But the obvious thing is that the sun and the moon are in constant movement… Conclusions prevent seeing the obvious…
We all know the difference between “fact” and “conclusion”, and we know we are more partial to drawing conclusions than remaining with facts, so what are we to do with that knowledge? We’re hopelessly in favor of a more compelling story than the last one, but why are we compelling? Does it matter? Where do we think we’re going?
I am not sure at all that we know the difference between fact and opinion. Facts don’t change. I am 5’ 9" and it won’t change. But opinion as I am an American or a Russian or a Christian do change according to the circumstances…
Yes, but that doesn’t mean that this can’t change. That the brain has persisted in violent, hateful, loveless behavior doesn’t mean that it doesn’t undergo a radical transformation when it awakens to what it is doing.
How do you know what “awakening begins with”? Has the brain put thought in its place? Is it speaking from freedom, selflessness, choicless awareness, or is it speculating?
What is being said is that the perception that the observer is the observed is the perception that awakens the brain to the illusion that you as observer are not separate from what is observed. Same with the separation of you as thinker from your thought. Without seeing that this is so, the brain is held fast in the duality illusion.
