You’re equating the self (from my quote) with the conditioned mind, right? But does the self ‘extend beyond’ the conditioned mind? Either conventionally (self) or ultimately (Self)?
Is the reality you speak of, the projected consensus reality, the ‘real reality’ i.e. Reality?
In this case it is shorthand for “what I believe is happening”.
Reality here means : my experience (which is what we call Reality)
What about the ‘real’ reality, Reality? Does fathoming Reality matter?
Absolutely not…but that doesn’t keep thought from trying!
How many 6 feet are there in one Reality?
Why does having a reasonably good understanding of Reality not matter?
Funny you should ask. I thought you were against that kinda stuff - for example : your anti logic and reason stance. And your habit of disapearring whenever we even start getting close to home.
I think it matters - by which I mean I like learning stuff. And the best way of getting to grips with the facts, is by observing them directly (as opposed to imagining stuff about unknown stuff)
However, believing that thunder and lightning is created by Thor is not really a problem - unless you meet someone who hates Norse mythology, or if you want to become a meteorologist.
Reality and I have an unusual relationship?
What about things (or non-things) you cannot observe directly? Do they, the possibility of them, matter?
The self would always have to be an image, I would think, because it isn’t a living thing but a character, a protagonist, a concept.
The self is a mental construct, and mental constructs are not alive in the scientific sense. But for most people the self (i.e. I) seems to be a living feeling (re)acting being. The intellectual understanding that the self is a mirage pales in comparison to the gut feeling of being a self. ?
Just for fun: self as tulpa?
Ultimately matters would mean something like: matters inherently, regardless of context. Does it make sense, that X matters regardless of context? Does mattering derive from context? Often, for sure: Beauty and meaning and value are in the eye of the beholder. But is there something that’s baked into reality itself, is mattering part of the nature of Nature?
Does one blade of grass matter?
If it wouldn’t matter, what would be the world with…no grass ?
When grass matters, each blade of grass matters.
But no one stops to look at one blade of grass.
Can anything exists in isolation, or outside of a context ? Life is to be related.
So, what ultimately matters is to see that all there is …is related ?
Would you say what ultimately matters is ‘that all-there-is is related’ or ‘to see that all-there-is is related?’
Does Truth, with a capital T, matter? To whom/what? Does Reality itself, does the Ground (presuming there is a Reality/Ground) ‘care about’ Truth? How does the caring manifest?
“Like a flower that has perfume you can smell it or pass it by. That flower is for everybody and for the one who takes the trouble to breathe it deeply and look at it with delight.Whether one is very near in the garden or very far away, it is the same to the flower because it is full of that perfume and therefore it is sharing with everybody.” (these are K’s words)
Rick, I would respond to your question with the above metaphor. I say this
The Perfume (or the flower) is the truth. If I do not stop to breath the truth, it doesn’t matter the me nor the the Truth, cause I and the truth remain the same. If I breath the Perfume the truth remains as is, but it will change my life, and it is all that matters.
And breathe in is to be related.
Is breathing the perfume of the flower ‘being related’ or ‘knowing you are related?’ What ultimately matters: the Truth or that we see-feel the Truth?
We ask :
If truth matters to it self ? Like a kind of self love ?
If truth is the source of “what matters” ?
Truth is a pathless land…
… It seems I can’t answer this question
Will the truth have a certified TRUTH stamp?
(Or will it just be another Donald Trump ad for money?)
Would it help if the
‘ truth ‘ stamp was notarized? ‘Guaranteed Truth’ ( that way nobody could be deluded ?)
