Imagine

Imagine you woke up one morning, and your thoughts were in a language you recognized but had too little knowledge of to know what the words were conveying. The first thing you would do is focus your attention on whatever imagery might accompany the stream of meaningless words to get a clue as to what to think about the content.

You’d be like an illiterate person who “reads” a newspaper by looking at the pictures and iconography to get a sense of what the reader is concerned with and entertained by. It would never be entirely clear what the newspaper is telling its readers, but you’d have enough clues to form a theory or a suspicion.

This might seem like a nightmare scenario, but it would actually be more of an awakening than a descent into ignorance because you’d be forced to realize how much of what you mistake for actuality is mostly belief and wishful/dreadful thinking.
